Salalah Mountain Safari: Jebel Samhan Panorama & Tayq Canyon
Discover the most fascinating natural sites within the Dhofar mountains, including some of the world's largest sinkholes and unique geological formations.
Tour Highlights:
- Wadi Darbat: Explore this surprisingly green valley, where you'll encounter beautiful cascades, a potentially huge seasonal waterfall, and even camel herds crossing the azure waters of the Darbat River, which are teeming with fish. This valley showcases the lush side of Dhofar, especially during the Khareef (monsoon) season.
- Tawi Attair (Well of Birds) Sinkhole: Ascend into the Jabal Qara mountains to reach this impressive sinkhole. Stand at the rim of the abyss and gaze down into its remarkable depth of 211 meters. It's known as the "Well of Birds" due to the numerous birds that frequent the location.
- Tayq Canyon (Sinkhole): Continue your journey to one of the largest sinkholes in the world, the massive canyon-like Tayq sinkhole. This natural wonder is a testament to the powerful geological forces at play in the region.
- Jebel Samhan Mountain Panorama: Arrive at a stunning viewpoint on the edge of the Samhan mountains escarpment. From an elevation of approximately 1340 meters (Jebel Samhan itself has peaks reaching over 2000m), you'll be treated to a vast, sweeping view of the Dhofar coastal plain and the Arabian Sea.
- Wadi Hinae & Baobab Trees: The final stop takes you to the picturesque Hinae valley, a unique location on the Arabian Peninsula. Here, you can admire a rare forest of giant baobab trees, a sight not commonly found in this region.
