Tour Overview

Your journey begins in the evening after dinner, with a hotel pick-up from Sharm El Sheikh in a modern air-conditioned vehicle. The drive to St. Catherine’s area takes approximately 3 hours.

Climb to Mount Sinai

Upon arrival at the foot of the mountain, you will begin your hike accompanied by a local Bedouin guide. The climb to the summit (2,285 meters above sea level) is a rewarding experience, leading you to one of the most spectacular sunrise views in Egypt. Watching the sun rise over the mountains is truly unforgettable.

Visit St. Catherine’s Monastery

After descending, you will visit St. Catherine’s Monastery, one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world, dating back to the 6th century. During your visit, you will see:

  • The Holy Burning Bush
  • Ancient chapels and wells
  • A remarkable collection of icons and manuscripts

Return to Sharm El Sheikh

After this incredible experience, you will return to your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, arriving around 2:00 PM.

        • Operation Days: Daily, except for Thursdays and Saturdays, and during monastery scheduled festive days (it's recommended to confirm operating days close to your travel date as monastery opening hours can vary).
        • Physical Fitness: This tour requires a good level of physical fitness. It involves a strenuous uphill walk in the dark and downhill walk during daylight.
        • Not Recommended For: Individuals with walking difficulties, back problems, problems with heights, children (generally not recommended for young children due to the late start and physical demand), or pregnant ladies.
        • What to Wear/Bring:
          Passports are essential.
          Heavy clothes are highly recommended in winter
          (layers, warm jacket, hat, gloves) as temperatures on the mountain can drop significantly.
          Shoulders and legs must be covered to visit the monastery church (for both men and women). No short shorts or sleeveless tops.
          Flat, sturdy walking shoes or trainers that grip well are crucial for the mountain terrain.
          Light clothes, sun hat, water, sun cream, and sunglasses are advisable for the morning after sunrise and the journey back.
          A small backpack with snacks and water is recommended for the hike.
          A headlamp or flashlight is very useful for the ascent in the dark.
        • Visa: A full Egyptian visa is typically required for this trip, as St. Catherine Monastery is outside the "Sinai Only" permit zone. This can usually be purchased upon arrival at Sharm El Sheikh airport. Please verify specific visa requirements for your nationality before travel.
